Insert Subtitles to MP4 Videos without Encoding

Q: "I've a video library with .mp4 files and external .srt files. I'm satisfied with the audio and video quality of these very files, which makes me reluctant to re-encode any video just to add subtitles to these mp4 files. Is there any effective ways? Thanks in advance!"

You must be upset to watch some mp4 videos in a different lauguage without subtitles, and can't catch up the video content. So, if you can insert some external subtitles to these mp4 videos by your own, how wonderful? Luckily, this tutorial will share some hints and mainly cover two pages on: Download external SRT subtitles or create your own subtitles; Insert subtitles to MP4 videos without encoding.

Part One: Download External SRT subtitles or Create Your Own Subtitles

If you don't have any .srt subtitles or would like to add your own words to the .srt subtitles displayed on screen. You can follow below two parts to get it.

Download .srt subtitles: You can put "movie title" + "your preferred language" + "subtitles" as the search strings and select the subtitle file saved in .srt for an effective SRT subtitle file searching. Alternatively, finding the needed subtitles in .srt format from those popular subtitle download sites like Moviesubtitles.org is also a practical way.

Create your own .srt file: Here we take Notepad as an example. Just open Notepad, create the subtitles you like in the text editor, click menu File->Save As; change the subtitle file name based on your name of video file and save it in .srt format.

Tips: The SRT subtitles need to contain the following parts while creating subtitles:
1. The number showing which subtitle it is in the sequence.
2. The time that the subtitle should appear and disappear on the screen.
3. The subtitle itself.
4. A blank line indicating the begin of a new subtitle.
